Course Description: There are many challenges to making new and existing buildings accessible to persons with disabilities. Wheelchair lifts and elevators can be used to overcome this challenge. This course discusses the standards for the design and installation of these devices as outlined in the Americans with Disabilities Act Accessibility Guidelines (ADAAG).
Learning Objectives: Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Review the standards used in the design, manufacturing and installation of wheelchair lifts and elevators.
- Discuss the accessibility requirements as outlined in the Americans with Disabilities Act Accessibility Guidelines.
- Specify the type of accessibility wheelchair lift or elevator required given the design and use of the building.
- Demonstrate an awareness of the Health, Safety and Welfare (HSW) issues relating to the installation of wheelchair lifts and elevators.
